Foods that affect thyroid status.
Avoid:
- Cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and bokchoy), limit intake to 5 ounces a day or steam
- Fried and fatty foods (disrupt the body’s ability to absorb thyroid hormone replacement medicines)
- Processed foods, high sodium content as hypothyroidism tends to raise the BP
- Excess fiber
- Coffee (tends to block the absorption of the thyroid replacement), medication taken with coffee can lead to uncontrollable thyroid levels
- Alcohol has a toxic effect on the thyroid glands
